Cross Mountain, known initially as “Kreuzberg” by early Fredericksburg pioneers, was used as a lookout point by Native Americans before early settlers discovered a timber cross on this hilltop in 1847. Cross Mountain is nestled on a historic marl and limestone hill with an elevation of 1,951 feet.

At its summit stands a large, illuminated cross, a beacon visible for miles around, especially beautiful as it glows against the twilight sky.
